Check out a Behind The Scenes graphic of this image on our Processing page. This vantage point for photographing the Milky Way through a sea cave on the coast of Maine only lines up in the beginning of the calendar year. We've been trying to get this shot for a few years now and we finally got to do it after some meticulous planning - the time of year, the moon phase, the tide phase and of course the weather. After seeing a few other shots from this location where the cave was very dark, we wanted to make sure we captured as much detail inside the cave as possible so we used an LED panel to light it up. A total of 5 photos were blended for the finished image.
