This image is a capture of Skyline Arch under a setting crescent moon and features the Northern end of the Milky Way, taken in mid May 2015 between our two sold out Night Sky Utah workshops.
This is one of my favorite spots and one of the reasons I moved to Maine: the view of the Milky Way at Pemaquid Harbor from a good friend's house. The ridiculously bright light across the harbor is coming from Fort William Henry. A few years ago they installed a dusk-to-dawn sodium vapor lamp to light up the property all night long, every night of the year for "safety reasons." I can remember how many more night sky features were visible from this location during the years previous to the light being installed.
The Milky Way rises above the desert dunes at Goblin Valley State Park near Green River, Utah while the moon lights up the foreground and creates a 'blue hour' glow in the sky.
